BORN SLIPPY NUXX 30 YEARS
A tribute to the iconic track ‘Born Slippy Nuxx’, this project delivers a perspective on the song’s meaning and impact on the electronic dance music scene. A timeless song produced by the infamous Underworld, ‘Born Slippy Nuxx’ remains an anthem amongst rave culture; an anthem which I’ve always connected myself to, whether that’s through dancefloors I’ve shared with my peers or the moments of confidence, confusion and vulnerability expressed through the voice of Karl Hyde. Ultimately, this project is a moment for me to pay homage to one of my favourite songs. Born Slippy Nuxx 30 Years presents itself within a vinyl cover format to then reveal itself as a publication, delivering words from Karl Hyde of Underworld explaining the song’s complex story. 6 inserts present 12 unique pieces of text which encourage the reader to build their own understanding of the song. These inserts are positioned chronologically in line with the moments which occur throughout the 7-minute track. The project is designed for those who truly lose themselves amongst Underworld and the spaces they create throughout their music, something which I believe is reflective throughout the entirety of the project and the design language which I developed. A design language which separetes itself from existing interpretations and the close association with Trainspotting.
